WHAT IS A PEABERRY?

A peaberry is a type of coffee bean. Normally the fruit of the coffee plant contains two beans that develop with flattened facing sides, but sometimes only a single, oval shaped bean develops; this is known as peaberry.

Peaberry coffee tastes different than normal beans from the same crop because the bean shape leads to different roasting characteristics. Peaberry coffee is typically more brightly acidic, more complex in the upper aromatic ranges of the profile but somewhat lighter in body, than coffee made from normally shaped beans from the same batch.

What is a PAIRED COFFEE?

A paired coffee is a combination of one coffee roasted two different ways or two distinct coffees roasted separately and then “paired” to highlight complementary flavors.

From more than a decade of experience roasting coffee in East Africa, our founder and lead roaster takes great pleasure in pairing complementary coffees from East Africa and presenting them in a light, medium or dark roast profile.

Our rotating, paired coffee offerings begin with the East African country of Tanzania. Coffee from the stunning Southern Highlands in the mountainous region of Mbeya, is paired with coffee from the fertile soil surrounding the famed Mt. Kilimanjaro in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. These “two mountain” pairings are more than a mouthful of delicious.
